The action will be taken under the Prohibition of Non-degradable Plastic Products Regulations, 2013, and the Environment Protection Act, 1997.
In this regard, CDA Chairman Captain (r) Muhammad Usman Younis has launched a two-pronged strategy to tackle the use of non-biodegradable plastic shopping bags in the ICT. This initiative involves raising awareness regarding the hazards of this practice, and confiscating such bags where necessary.
To this end, the CDA has directed the Director General (DG) Enforcement Wing to execute operations in both rural and urban areas of the federal capital to collect non-biodegradable plastic shopping bags and prevent their use. Moreover, the management has issued instructions requiring the use of environmentally friendly bags made of natural fibres instead.
