Islamabad: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Rawalpindi Waste Management Company (RWMC) for a 400 kanal landfill site, news sources reported. The MoU was signed under the Public-Private Partnership (3P) Authority Islamabad and the RWMC on a joint venture base operation.

The proposed landfill site will be used as the city’s first solid waste management site. The site is 6 kilometres from GT Road on Mandra Chakwal Road and 55 kilometres from the city’s centre. The landfill will be utilised in partnership with the RWMC to address the capital city’s long-standing solid waste disposal issues. According to the Minister of Planning and Development Asad Umer, the planned location will be subject to all applicable Punjab laws, rules, and regulations. Moreover, RWMC has begun the process of acquiring land for a new dumpsite.

A 1265-kanal piece of land on Mandra Chakwal Road in Bagnial, Dera Pothi, and Sahang Tehsil Gujjar Khan District Rawalpindi has been purchased. Furthermore, the minister instructed the relevant authorities to engage an environmental impact assessment expert for the proposed dump site.
