Following instructions from the Islamabad High Court (IHC), the CDA is said to have decided to relocate its existing improvised dumping site from the undeveloped Sector I-12. In an order issued in August, the court urged CDA to develop a scientific dumping and waste site in collaboration with all related departments and environmental protection organisations. The IHC has also ordered CDA to discontinue depositing waste or refuse at the existing location beginning on October 4. According to CDA sources, the administration is in final negotiations with RDA for a permanent dump site in the Rawalpindi district’s Chakbeli. Furthermore, to effectively manage the landfill site, the CDA will construct two transfer stations; one at the Sewage Treatment Plant in Sector I-9 and one near the old airport area.

It is important to mention that the CDA has earlier proposed a landfill site at Kuri area but the proposal did not materialise. Later, the authority tried forming a similar landfill site in Sector H but it was contested in court and was scrapped. The CDA last month revealed it is in talks with RDA for a permanent landfill site that will be operated jointly with RDA.
