During a press conference, Munawar stated that the 5-lane highway project is moving quickly and would be ready for traffic by the end of the year. He stated that despite the project being delayed for many months owing to the COVID-19 pandemic and a severe and unexpected monsoon season, it will be finished to improve traffic flow. He also stated that the project got delayed owing to certain technical challenges with the bridge design on the Railway’s Main-Line 1 (ML-1) project. However, the engineering staff was able to resolve the issue.

It is worth noting that the multi-billion rupee project was launched in 2020, and was anticipated to be completed by the middle of the year. However, pandemic-related constraints and material costs’ escalation caused the delay. The project was then handed over to the state-owned Frontier Works Organization (FWO), which has maintained a consistent pace for the project, which authorities believe will result in project completion on schedule.
