Islamabad: Islamabad Chief Commissioner Amer Ali Ahmed on Friday (September 11) directed the Capital Development Authority (CDA), the Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP), and the Islamabad Capital Territory Administration (ICTA) to work jointly to resolve the traffic concerns of the capital city, according to a news source.
The chief commissioner, who is also the CDA chairman, issued these orders while presiding over a meeting held at the CDA headquarters last week. Islamabad Police Inspector General Amir Zulfiqar Khan, Islamabad Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Hamza Shafqat and other senior officials representing the CDA, ICT and ITP were also present during the session.

On the occasion, the chief commissioner asked the CDA to upgrade the city’s traffic related infrastructure, including the marking of lanes and the installation of smart traffic signals, street signs, and street lights. In addition, the development authority was further asked to upgrade the service roads along major throughways like the Srinagar Highway and the Islamabad Highway on priority. The commissioner also told the officials concerned to conduct proper fencing work along the city’s major roads and to distinctly mark their entry and exit points.

In order to improve traffic flow during rush hours, the chief commissioner asked the CDA to conduct patch work on the roads that required rehabilitation. Ahmed additionally asked the ITP to chalk out a traffic plan for the Islamabad Highway in order to ensure that the ongoing construction work wouldn’t cause commuters any trouble. He also issued directives to address issues with traffic congestion on Margalla Road.
