During the first phase of the initiative, CDA has proposed to install 20 smart signals on different roads of the city. Later, the civic body plans to extend the project to other avenues as well.
CDA sources have revealed that these smart signals consist of optical sensor equipment that can alter the timings of the green and red lights according to the traffic load. The sensors visually measure the number of vehicles at the signals, and then adjust the waiting times automatically.
Reportedly, the smart signals will minimise the need of manual intervention at traffic junctions, along with offering reduced wait times to the commuters.
CDA has taken the decision for installing the smart signals in order to regulate traffic flow in the capital and resolve traffic jam issues at the junctions; especially during peak rush hours.
