The authority has started construction of merging points on the Expressway to shift partial traffic during the rush hours on the other side. As per the details, the CDA has decided with the assistance of Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) to divert traffic on the two lanes of Zero Point to the Koral Chowk section of Islamabad Expressway from Koral Chowk to Zero Point. This means that during the rush hours, commuters will have access to six lanes.
Reportedly, CDA Machinery Pool Organisation (MPO) is developing two merging points; one past the I-8 bridge, before Zero Point and another near Quaid-e-Azam’s portrait. It was disclosed that the merging points will be constructed by the CDA while the traffic will be manned by ITP.
According to a CDA official (whose name was not disclosed) stated that the traffic will be shifted to either side of the road on an experimental basis for a week, keeping in view the traffic load. Sharing more details, the senior official of CDA informed that adequate numbers of traffic officials will be deployed and 2,000 cones will be provided for dividing lanes.
