Islamabad: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has decided to hire a consultant for the development/proposal of the zoning plan for the city, according to a news story published on Tuesday (February 15).

As per the details, the CDA’s Development Working Party (DWP) will meet today (February 15) to discuss the hiring process of a consultant. It was mentioned that the agenda of the meeting included a discussion on PC-1 for conducting a survey and proposing a zoning plan for zones other than Zone I.
It is pertinent to note that the city manager is the regulator of all houses and buildings in Islamabad. Unfortunately, the civic agency regulated construction in Zone I due to which unauthorised construction has increased in other zones.
Reportedly, the authority started paying attention to other zones (Zone-IV and V) after 2017. But by then, massive construction was already taken place. In August last year, a committee was formed by the Ministry of Interior to review the master plan of Islamabad. According to the CDA, a new regulation is required to deal with Zone III and Sub-zone D of Zone IV.

As per the existing regulations, no construction can take place on private land in Zone III. However, the civic agency didn’t regulate the private land, which led to thickly-populated areas like Banigala, Kot Hatyal, Bhara Kahu, and Shah Allah Ditta.
