As per the details shared by the source, the CDA invited the Frontier Work Organization (FWO), National Logistic Cell (NLC), and RAILCOP to submit their bidding documents by January 23. CDA spokesperson Nauman Khalid confirmed the decision, stating that the contract would be awarded to a government-owned construction firm to ensure the project’s timely completion, which is anticipated to alleviate traffic congestion in Islamabad.
The project, approved with a budget of PKR 2.8 billion during the CDA’s Development Working Party meeting, is slated for completion within two years. It encompasses the creation of dedicated lanes along Jinnah Avenue and Khayaban-i-Iqbal, as well as service roads in 26 residential sectors. Additionally, the CDA plans to establish 150 parking lots for bicycles and e-bikes, outsourcing them to private firms for citizen use.
Recognising the need to address carbon emissions and promote cycling in the capital, the spokesperson emphasised that the majority of the population falls within an age group conducive to utilising this initiative. The project also includes the promotion of an e-bike service, with various stations set up to support these eco-friendly modes of transportation.

The project aligns with Sustainable Development Goal 13 (climate action) by curbing carbon emissions, enhancing air quality, and combating climate change. Furthermore, it supports SDG 11 (sustainable cities and communities) by investing in secure, inclusive, and sustainable urban development. The initiative aims to diversify transportation options in Islamabad, offering a safe, convenient, and equitable commuting alternative, particularly for those without personal vehicles.
