ISLAMABAD: Concerned formations of Capital Development Authority (CDA) to immediately initiate cleaning of nullahs for smooth flow of rainwater to avoid any untoward incident during monsoon rain spell in Capital. Acting Chairman of the CDA Mian Waheedud Din has given these directions and also ordered enforcement directorate to constitute special teams to shift or remove the katchi abadis along the banks of nullahs at high-risk zones to minimize the threats of loss of lives and property.
The acting chairman said this in a meeting to review state of preparedness of Flood Relief Cell (FRC) established on the eve of monsoon rains here at the Directorate of Emergency & Disaster Management, Fire Headquarters situated in Sector G-7/1. The purpose of this FRC is to provide flood relief services to the citizens of the Capital in case of any emergency during the upcoming monsoon spell, he said.
Director General (Civic Management) would be the Chief Coordinator of this cell, while the cell will work under the administrative control of the Director Emergency & Disaster Management, Mansur Ahmad Khan, who will be the in-charge of the cell. All concerned directorates including the Directorates of Maintenance, Environment, Enforcement, Municipal Administration, Planning, E&M Maintenance, Directorate of Machinery Pool Organization (MPO) and Capital Hospital will assist and coordinate in the relief services.
He was apprised that cell would function round the clock, and would be equipped with latest relief devices including 20 numbers of large and small size dewatering pumps, vehicles including pickups, shovels, front end loaders and dumpers. It will ensure that all flushing units with operational staff are available round the clock for quick and prompt response at enquiry offices. The authority has requested National Disasters Management Authority (NDMA) for provision of boats to rescue the people in case of high flood, which has been agreed by NDMA. CDA has also arranged tents to provide relief to affected people in case of sever flood in the city.
Din directed that deployment plan be prepared and vigilance teams be constituted that will have a constant liaison with Metrological department (Met) and district administration He also directed the Director Emergency & Disasters Management to keep a constant liaison with national disaster management authority and get all necessary help from them if needed. On the direction of the Din, arrangements have been made to share flood level at Simly Dam with the public through media on daily basis and the same information will be communicated with District Administration (ICT). All kinds of material hindering the smooth flow of water shall be removed on emergency basis from nullahs, he directed.
He also directed to ensure that Capital Hospital and all the dispensaries of CDA be kept in ready position to meet any emergency and for the provision of first-aid. He also directed the Director Health Services to ensure carrying out of proper spray and fumigation on regular basis. Waheed has appealed the residents of capital to coordinate with the following management of flood relief cell on telephones and mobile phone numbers.
