Islamabad: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) approved on Wednesday the establishment of two new directorates to further facilitate the construction sector (in line with Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan’s vision to promote low-risk sectors), according to news sources.

The CDA Board took this decision at a meeting held at its headquarters in Islamabad. As per reports, one of the new directorates is being set up for processing building plans – aimed to fast track the construction sector. This newly-approved ‘Directorate of Building Control – III’ will regulate the increasing developments in rural areas and enforce building bylaws in Zone 3, Zone 4 and Sector E-11.
Initially, two building directorates existed in Islamabad. The Directorate of Building Control-I regularises the commercial and residential buildings in sectoral areas, while the Directorate of Building Control-II regulates the developments in E-11 and authorised housing schemes.

Meanwhile, the civic authority has also (in principle) approved the Directorate of Urban Infrastructure Development – which will operate in coordination with the relevant directorates of the Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad (MCI).
The authority’s official statement also said that the request of private building owners is to be denied and they have to comply with the new building regulations and pay their dues as required.
In addition, the CDA board also subjected the policy for bus stations to the approval of Islamabad Transport Authority. It has also decided to provide ‘insurance guarantee or mortgage of the scalable area in place of bank guarantee’.
