It is important to note that the capital city of Islamabad requires 220 million gallons daily (MGD), of which CDA is providing 65 MGD. There are only three sources to fulfil the water supply needs of the city namely through Simly Dam, Khanpur Dam and 176 tube wells. However, the government is also working on the other water supply projects that include two small dams, Shahdhara and Chiniot and a mega scheme of Ghazi Barotha Project that will provide an additional 100 MGD to Islamabad and Rawalpindi.
