Islamabad: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) board has approved a slight realignment of Margalla Road near Shah Allah Ditta in order to preserve the century-old graveyard, according to news published in the leading newspaper on June 18.

The board meeting was held with Chairman Amer Ali Ahmed in the chair to approve the realignment of the road. As per the details, the CDA board has approved the shifting of the roads towards the southern side and Sectors C-13, D-12 to save the graveyard. The chairman also ordered the relevant authorities to initiate the compensation process for the affectees of the new alignment.

Moreover, the said road project starts from GT Road and will end at D-12. Once the interchange will be constructed, the small portion of 11th Avenue will be connected to Khayaban-i-Iqbal. The attendees were informed that the construction work on Margalla Road Phase-I (from GT Road to D-12) is 70% completed. The Frontier Work Organisation (FWO) was facing a problem completing the project because of the graveyard. Previously, the authority was planning of constructing a flyover or a tunnel to save the graveyard.
