Islamabad: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) approved the amended alignment construction plan for the 7.4-kilometre-long Bhara Kahu bypass on Wednesday (September 01), news sources reported. The decision was made following a presentation by the Army’s Engineer-in-Chief (E&C) branch to CDA officials. Following CDA’s approval, a formal PC-1 will be developed and approved by the committee.

The Frontier Works Organizations (FWO) will begin official work after the presentation and approval of PC-1 of the realignment. The Bara Kahu bypass runs from Quaid-i-Azam University to Satra Meel and was launched a few months ago by Prime Minister Imran Khan. The first suggested design was 2 kilometres shorter than the current accepted plan, but it fell onto private land, which, according to CDA members, would have cost more and might have resulted in litigation, eventually delaying the critical infrastructure project.

However, the current plan will pass through the state-owned land and make the process more efficient. At present FWO is building a 10-kilometre section from G.T. Road/Sangjani to D-12, where it will connect to Khayaban-i-Iqbal all the way to the edge of Constitution Avenue.
