Islamabad: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) on Thursday (October 107) declared 58 brick kilns that are located in Sector H-16 and H-17, to be illegal, news sources reported. The decision was taken by CDA Director Land Afnan Alam, under the Regulations 1962 (Restriction on Brick Kilns) and Industrial Regulation Ordinance pertaining to the ban of brick kilns in residential areas.

The kiln ban was imposed after the Enforcement Directorate inquired about the mushroom development of kilns in the H-16 and H-17 areas. This was followed by revenue officers’ inspections and surveys. However, the proprietors of the brick kilns were granted a petition hearing under the direction of the Islamabad High Court (IHC). The most recent judgement is the result of a hearing from the complainant and CDA authorities, who stated that the kilns in question are illegal and must be removed.

It is important to note that CDA purchased Sector H-16 and H-17 in 2008, but does not fully own the land since the dues have not been cleared to begin the development process.
