Islamabad: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) conducted the first e-balloting on Wednesday (December 28) to hand over plots to 162 villagers affected by Sector E-12 after a gap of 32 years, according to news sources. A total of 1,200 residents are planned to get plots in various phases, with the second ballot scheduled for January 30, 2022.
According to Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) on CDA Affairs Ali Nawaz Awan, who was present at the event, the e-ballot was conducted through the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) to ensure transparency. He stated that the procedure began when the Islamabad High Court (IHC) established a commission to settle the problem. The commission met with stakeholders before developing the solution and alternative land for the villagers. Awan stated that when the plots are handed over, development work in the sector will begin, and 4,000 file holders in the sector will receive possession of their plots.
It is vital to note that Sector E-12 was established in 1989, but CDA faced problems getting land possession for proper development owing to compensation disagreements with local villagers. In addition to Sector E-12, the government has recently also announced development work in I-12.
