Islamabad: The Council of Common Interests (CCI) on Thursday announced its decision to carry out equitable and consensual distribution of water resources between provinces, according to a news source. It made this decision during the 42nd CCI meeting, which was chaired by Prime Minister Imran Khan.

The 1991 Water Accord will be the basis for these decisions, with provincial and federal feedback incorporated. The CCI also agreed to include the feedback of the provinces in the decision-making process of the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA). In addition, the council also approved the Alternative and Renewable Energy Policy 2019 unanimously and also reviewed how previous decisions had been implemented. Water conservation projects were also looked at.

As for the consensual water distribution, the CCI was told that a committee had been formed; consisting of technical experts at both the provincial and federal levels. This committee will thoroughly investigate the issue and make its recommendations within a month. Any concerns and misgivings by the provinces regarding water supply will also be addressed in these recommendations and resolved accordingly.
