Rawalpindi: The Chaklala Cantonment Board (CCB) has sought suggestions from elected members for devising the body’s bye-laws – a news source reported.
A senior CCB official said that the board will adopt new bye-laws in the coming week. The board, which was made a separate entity in 2003, still follows the regulatory framework set by the Rawalpindi Cantonment Board (RCB).

CCB has asked its members to suggest new bye-laws since the cantonment authorities are not certain about the results of the next elections. CCB will adopt the rulings after consultation with its elected members in a meeting.
According to a CCB official, the types of buildings in areas under CCB jurisdiction are different from those under RCB. In the former, there are fewer commercial zones. Moreover, the streets in residential areas are narrower. This is why specific building bye-laws are needed for CCB.
The CCB Vice President Raja Irfan Imtiaz, speaking on the matter, said that the board wants to allow the construction of double-storey structures in narrow streets within densely populated areas. He explained that people have already built double-storey houses in these locations illegally. Following the approval of the new laws, they will be able to build a second floor after paying a board fee.
