Lahore: Lahore has completed the construction of what officials are calling the country’s most advanced urban road, Route 47, which runs through the heart of the city, connecting major thoroughfares such as Ferozepur Road, Gulberg Main Boulevard, Walton Road, and the Lahore Ring Road.
The project, which cost an estimated Rs9 billion (approximately USD 32 million), was developed by the Punjab Central Business District Development Authority (CBD Punjab). Route 47 spans 4.5 kilometers and features modern, smart technology designed to improve both traffic flow and sustainability.

CBD Punjab CEO, Imran Amin, described Route 47 as the central boulevard of Lahore’s emerging Central Business District, highlighting its international standards and smart infrastructure. The road includes a nearly one-kilometer flyover, dedicated pedestrian and bicycle lanes, and an innovative drainage system designed to prevent water accumulation, which is a common issue during Lahore’s monsoon season.
One of the most notable features of Route 47 is its use of solar panels along the sidewalks. These solar panels will provide shade while also generating up to one megawatt of electricity. “This is Pakistan’s first smart road that will not only enhance mobility but also produce energy,” Amin said.

Route 47 passes through the site of the former Walton Airport, now being redeveloped into a high-rise commercial zone. This area, part of a larger vision for Lahore’s Central Business District, aims to foster vertical urban development and establish Lahore as a hub for business and technology.
The infrastructure work in the district is largely complete, with new sewage systems, stormwater management, and the construction of two parking plazas. Additionally, rainwater from the area will be collected through underground systems and directed to an artificial lake, which is also nearing completion.
