Lahore: The Central Business District (CBD) has received a nod from the Punjab government for the launch of construction activities for multiple high-rise structures in the old Walton Airport area, news sources reported on November 21.

The CBA, now known as Punjab Central Business District Authority (CBDA), would erect high-rise structures of more than 70 floors on auctioned sites at Walton Airport and Bab-e-Pakistan, and the authority has already begun construction work with the funds received. According to sources, the project has collected PKR 56 billion since its inception and is likely to exceed PKR 2 trillion in the next few years due to its strategic position. Furthermore, in a statement issued by the government, it was elaborated that the project will play a significant role in the growth of Lahore as a modern and environmentally friendly metropolis, with the project also creating thousands of job opportunities.

It is worth noting that the CBD has previously auctioned off 12 plots of varying sizes in the CBD downtown district, where developers will build office spaces, commercial centers, and residences. Similarly, the government has begun a PKR 4.2 billion CBD Boulevard revamping and Kalma Chowk underpass remodeling project to handle traffic in the CBD zone. The project will take six months to complete and will be able to accommodate traffic entering and leaving from the Gulberg and Barkat Market.
