Karachi: The Cantonment Board Clifton (CBC) has announced its decision to survey and prepare a report on illegal and dilapidated buildings that fall under its jurisdiction within the city, a news source reported. Last week, CBC Executive Officer Rana Kashif Shahzad had directed the officials concerned to identify such constructions and submit a report within five days.

To facilitate this measure, two CBC teams under the leadership of Senior Engineer Asif Bhatti will visit various areas in Karachi. One of these teams will visit Punjab Colony and Delhi Colony. Meanwhile, the second team will survey Madniabad, P&T Colony, Bakhshish Village, Chandio Village, Khaliquzzaman Colony, Jamhoria Colony, and Lower Gizri.

A CBC Spokesperson stated that the said directives were issued following building by-law violation complaints, as well as reports of numerous dilapidated buildings situated within in katchi abadis, received by the authority. He added that after the submission of its report, CBC would meet all the legal requirements by conducting a massive operation for razing illegal and dilapidated structures.

He said that the CBC executive officer had also directed the officials concerned to refrain from showing any leniency to individuals providing their support towards the construction of illegal buildings in the city.
