The business community is of the opinion that such measures will support the exporters and fuel the local economy. The request was submitted by President for Frontier Customs Agents group, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chapter, Zia-ul-Haq Sarhadi. He demanded for the Azakhel Dry Port to be made operational. Doing so will help shift the goods-in-transit to Afghanistan, and decrease problems faced by exporters and importers.
Sarhadi stressed that it was the government’s duty to take such measures, so that the problems faced by the business community could be alleviated. He added that his agency continued to face several operational challenges due to the impact of local terrorism.

The Peshawar dry port was established on an emergency basis in 1986, but has remained in an unexpanded state for 32 years, Sarhadi further added.
