Lahore: The Naya Pakistan Housing Programme (NPHP) has caught the attention of Canadian investors, a news source reported. Before this, China, United Arab Emirates (UAE), and Turkey were among some of the countries to have shown an interest in this flagship low-cost housing project of the incumbent government.

A delegation of a Canadian construction company held a meeting with the Punjab Housing & Urban Development Minister Mian Mehmoodur Rasheed on Tuesday. Company Chairman Suleyman Mufti Gil briefed the minister about the low-cost housing techniques and technologies offered by his firm. He shared the global construction experience of the company, and expressed interest in building houses under the NPHP initiative.
Gil told the minister that his company was capable of introducing new construction trends that utilised environment-friendly technologies.
Rasheed stated that the interest shown by foreign investors and companies in NPHP indicated their confidence in Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan’s policies. He added that the Punjab government would ensure the facilitation of foreign investors interested in NPHP.

The minister stated that that the NPHP’s aim was to provide quality housing at low cost, and that they would welcome foreign proposals that made their targets feasible.
PM Khan had unveiled the NPHP project in October 2018. Last week, the Punjab government initiated the allotment of houses under this project via computerised balloting in Lodhran. The provincial government has also initiated a NPHP project in Multan, and allotted state land at Madni Chowk to construct low-cost houses.

Rasheed stated that they would initiatlly provide modern flats in Multan on easy instalments, at a cost of PKR 30 lakh. Meanwhile, he added, Madni Chowk would have 384 flats over 23 kanals of land. He revealed that they also plan to launch NPHP along Muzaffargarh Road.
The minister also revealed that they planned to launch the construction 200,000 houses in seven big cities within one year’s time.
