Islamabad: Canada’s High Commissioner to Pakistan Wendy Gilmour has said that the Canadian business community sees Pakistan as a viable investment destination in the fields of power generation, power transmission systems, and mining, a news source reported on August 16. She expressed these views in a meeting held with Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Shaukat Tarin.

The minister informed the Canadian High Commissioner on the strengthening of investment infrastructure and the growth occurring in many areas of the economy between the two countries. He stated that Pakistan has worked to enhance tax collection, promote exports, increase remittances, and make the energy industry more sustainable.
The minister said that Canada is one of the major development partners of Pakistan and there is a need to further strengthening the business and economic ties between the two countries. Tarin went on to say that the government is also taking major steps in agriculture, housing, and the SME sector. He also said that the Kamyab Pakistan Programme would be its flagship project for Pakistan’s youth that will promote entrepreneurship.

Moreover, the minister said that the government was drafting different short, medium, and long-term plans in 14 critical sectors for inclusive and sustainable growth, and that these steps would set up a more solid foundation for economic turnaround.
