Islamabad: The Canadian government on Wednesday (September 14) pledged USD 25 million relief package for flood victims in Pakistan, news sources reported.

The specified amount is in addition to the USD 5 million relief offered by Canada last week. According to a statement released by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s office, the donations would be utilised for humanitarian and relief activities and the supply of food, clean water, and medications to the people. He also stated that the government is collaborating with the Humanitarian Coalition, a Canadian relief organisation, to raise funding for flood victims. According to the announcement, whatever amount the Humanitarian Coalition will collect until September 28 will be matched in full by the government.

Moreover, Canadian Minister for International Development and Pacific Economic Development Agency Harjit Sajjan also visited the flood-hit areas and announced that the government is working on a comprehensive plan for the rehabilitation efforts. He also announced USD 20 million under the Global Polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI) via the World Health Organisation (WHO) and UNICEF to support polio eradication efforts in Pakistan.
