Karachi: The worker rights and trade union groups on Saturday have lauded the federal government’s incentive package for construction sector and urged for equal facilities to the workers of the same sector with that of the industrial workers (including provision of social security and registration under labour laws), according to news sources.

The representatives of the various labour and trade unions have called for labour laws to be enforced in the construction sector. They stressed that the government should ensure tax exemption and monetary benefits, announced for the construction sector, to make its way to the sub-sector industries as well.

They highlighted that no healthcare and personal safety precautions are exercised for the workers which lead to fatalities and deserve due consideration. The representatives elaborated that the workers in the construction sector are categorised as informal labour and therefore cannot get certain benefits.
