According to sources, several acres of land in H-16 fall in the buffer zone and green areas, where no construction can take place. However, a prison project was launched there several years ago. 80 feet reserved for 17th Avenue were also affected by the jail project.
Now, the authorities are making efforts to get post-facto approval from the cabinet and planning has also begun for the realignment of 17th Avenue.
Islamabad has its own police and judicial system, but it does not have a prison, so its prisoners are kept in Adiala Jail, Rawalpindi.
The model prison is spread over 90 acres in H-16 and is expected to cost around PKR 3.9 billion and will accommodate 2,000 prisoners.
