Islamabad: The federal cabinet on Tuesday (September 15) decided against the proposed regularisation of all illegal constructions in the Islamabad Model Prison, H-16, according to a news source.

According to the details shared, the prison’s boundary wall encroached on the Right of Way of the 17th Avenue – as well as several other buildings reported to be illegally constructed on the buffer zone; a designated ‘green area’ running along the south of the Kashmir Highway. No land-use approval was applied for in any of these cases.
The Interior Division moved a summary wherein it requested the authorities concerned to regularise the already existing constructions in these areas. However, the federal cabinet declined the request and directed the officials concerned to raze these structures and take strict action against those responsible.

Previously, this matter was brought before the Capital Development Authority (CDA) Board, with the options of either rebuilding the boundary wall of Islamabad Model Prison properly or having the federal government amend the project’s master plan. However, the federal cabinet rejected the proposal, stating that strict action was needed.
