Islamabad: The federal cabinet on Tuesday approved of the decision to relax the lockdown restrictions in the country from May 9 — with people asked to strictly enforce all coronavirus preventive measures during this period, according to news sources.

The ease in lockdown has been announced in a bid to facilitate the earnings of workers across the country; particularly the daily wage earners. The National Coordination Committee (NCC) is expected to meet today (Wednesday) in order to decide which businesses and industries will be reopened during this eased lockdown phase.

Information Minister Shibli Faraz revealed that through these measures, Prime Minister Imran Khan was seeking to reopen small businesses and the transport sector to some extent. However, he said that the Prime Minister was also concerned that the threat of COVID-19 could strike again if the government’s standard operating procedures (SOPs) and social distancing protocols were not followed properly.
The provinces of Punjab and Sindh have also communicated their intention of relaxing the lockdown by allowing certain businesses to resume operations; including shops for shoes, garments, and automobile spare parts etc.
