Sources privy to the cabinet meeting, which took place on Tuesday, said that several ministers were of the view that the scheme was not politically sellable – and could be challenged in the courts.
Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry said that Prime Minister Imran Khan has formed a committee to deliberate upon the scheme. He added that the cabinet, for the time being, has deferred the approval process.
The first meeting of the newly-constituted committee will reportedly take place today, and the authorities concerned will now take some time before announcing the scheme.
