Islamabad: The federal cabinet has approved PKR 100 billion for the Wazir-i-Azam Kamyab Naujawan Programme (WAKNP), a news source reported.
Youth will be provided soft loans of up to PKR 5 million for establishing their own businesses under this programme.

Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Information Firdous Ashiq Awan, while explaining the initiative, said that loans worth PKR 100,000 to PKR .500,000 will be given at an interest rate of 6%, with a PKR 50,000 equity. Meanwhile, larger loans between PKR 500,000 and PKR 5,000,000, will be provided at an 8% mark-up with 20% equity.

She further said that the youth forms 65% of the population, and the cabinet had launched the initiative to empower them. This will help young people engage in economic and trade activities and create job opportunities.
Young women will be provided 25% of the abovementioned soft loans to enable them to run their own businesses, Awan said.
