Lahore: The federal cabinet has approved a financial closure agreement between the Ministry of Housing and Akhuwat Islamic Microfinance for the provision of interest-free loans to Naya Pakistan Housing Programme (NPHP) applicants, a news source reported.

Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (PM) on Information and Broadcasting Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan revealed this information during a press conference on Tuesday. She said that the microfinance company would provide PKR 5 billion in funds to offer interest-free loans to society’s low-income groups; who will receive loans worth PKR 100,000 to PKR 1 million.

She added that as per the plan to build five million low-cost houses under the NPHP project, the government would prioritise individuals registered under the ‘poverty score card survey’.
Recently, the National Database & Registration Authority (NADRA) extended the NPHP registration deadline till November 15. The NPHP scheme registration form is available at: nphp.nadra.gov.pk. A NADRA spokesperson said that they had already received more than 1.4 million applications from across the country.
