Islamabad: The Senate Standing Committee on Cabinet Secretariat instructed the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) to redesign the third runway of the new Islamabad airport, according to a news source. The decision has been taken to safeguard the interests of local settlements.
According to Senate Committee Chairman Senator Talha Mehmood, the residents of Meelu – a village adjacent to the airport – fear that they will lose their land if the government acquires it for the third runway. Mehmood said that the CAA should stop issuing NOCs to upcoming housing societies in the area to avoid any disturbance to the existing population.
