Rawalpindi: Aviation Secretary Hassan Nasir Jamy recently announced the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA)’s plan to install e-gates at seven major airports around the country, according to a news report.

As per details, these gates are to comprise a self-automated service option which will scan travellers’ passports for swift immigration clearance. This facility will also be able to ascertain whether a traveller is a security risk or not by using facial recognition software.
Jamy made these notifications during a meeting with Emirates Airlines Vice President Mohammad Sarhan; further revealing that the e-gates would be installed in Karachi, Islamabad, Lahore, Peshawar, Quetta, Multan, and Peshawar in two phases.
He also assured that the e-gate data would be protected under the cyber security law.

The secretary further said that the aviation industry in Pakistan continued to grow with one million additional passengers entering the country each year.
He added that the National Aviation Policy – 2019 was credited with creating ease of doing business in the aviation sector; resulting in improving the image of Pakistan in the global business industry.
