Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Sardar Usman Buzdar on Tuesday provided his approval to the establishment of a new bus terminal near Thokar Niaz Beg in addition to sanctioning the proposed Punjab Road Safety Authority (PRSA), a news source reported. To this effect, he directed the Transport Department to submit the project’s design by December 10.

He gave the instructions during a meeting held to review the performance of the Transport Department. Transport Minister Jehanzeb Khan Khichi and other officials concerned including chairman P&D and secretary transport were all present at the occasion. The attendees discussed various proposals pertaining to a new transport-related force and a bus terminal authority.
CM Buzdar directed the authorities concerned to complete the procurement-related process on a timely basis; further emphasizing the need to ensure transparency and observance of rules for the procurement of buses.
He stated that the provincial government intended to set up similar bus terminals in Faisalabad and Multan. He also announced the executive’s decision to operate electric buses in major cities in a bid to tackle smog and other environmental hazards in the province.

Moreover, the chief minister stated that scope of the Lahore Transport Company will be expanded to every city in the province. He further called for setting up a committee which will be tasked with providing suggestions for improving the performance of the Punjab Masstransit Authority.
