Bahawalpur: Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Sardar Usman Buzdar has approved the summary of the construction of the South Punjab Secretariat, as well as several Government Officers’ Residences (GORs) in Bahawalpur and Multan, for a sum of PKR 4 billion – which is to be allocated under the current fiscal year’s Annual Development Programme (ADP), according to a news source published on July 19.

The said summary was submitted for approval by Principal Secretary Iftikhar Ali Sahoo. According to the chief minister’s approval, the construction will be executed under the Infrastructure Development Authority of Punjab (IDAP).
The summary’s contents establish that the South Punjab secretariats were planned to be set up in both Bahawalpur and Multan with fully operational departments of planning and development (P&D), finance, police, education, health, irrigation, communication and works, local government, housing, agriculture. Moreover, special directorates and regional offices will be established under the department – each headed by a secretary.

The summary highlighted that all the attached departments needed offices for functioning and also requires residential accommodations for the officers. Consequently, for the construction of secretariat in Bahawalpur and Multan, suitable locations have been identified and land will be transferred soon.
