Islamabad: Construction work at Burma Bridge is underway, according to a press release issued by the Capital Development Authority. The contractors have completed the process to dismantle the old bridge, and are currently busy conducting pile-testing of the foundation.

As per the directions of the CDA, allied work on the project is underway. Once the pile-test for the bridge’s foundation is completed, girder casting will be initiated. In the meanwhile, the contractor will ensure that construction for the retaining wall will also start shortly.

The CDA has also directed the staff concerned to segregate the useful and unutilized materials from the debris. The authority plans to auction-off this material. To further ensure that the useful material doesn’t get wasted, the CDA has instructed the project manager to remain at the construction site, and ensure effective supervision.
Furthermore, the CDA also demanded the submission of a progress report on the construction process, at regular intervals.

The under construction Burma Bridge is 152 metres in length, and 11.5 metres in depth. Once completed, it will resolve traffic issues in the neighbourhood.
