Builders Association of Pakistan (BAP) has found itself helpless before the land mafia and has decided to check if the government of Pakistan could be of any assistance in this regard. Zameen.com too has been raising concerns about how the land mafia deteriorates the property market of Pakistan but looks like these criminals are rooted too deep in the country to be dealt with easily.
Through a print advertisement, BAP has appealed Pakistan Prime Minister (PM) Mian Nawaz Sharif, Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Mian Shahbaz Sharif, Punjab Housing Minister Tanveer Aslam, and Punjab Finance Minister Mian Mujtaba Shuja to save the housing sector from the shackles of land grabbers. According to BAP, a total of 1669 housing projects in Pakistan have been put on hold because of land grabbing and encroachments.
Pakistan housing sector currently faces a shortfall of approximately 15 million houses and the role of the real estate sector is very important in filling this gap. Instead of aiding the private and public sector to fill this gap and meet the housing needs of Pakistan’s ever-increasing population, the Government of Pakistan has been oblivious of how brutally the land mafia has been hampering this process. Because of this oblivion, about 800,000 people from the construction sector are facing the fear of losing their jobs and primary source of income.
In addition to that, public investment of hundreds of millions of rupees has been wasted so far and 55 industries related to the construction sector are facing the consequences of government’s lack of interest in curbing encroachments, discouraging land mafia and fixing the non-cooperative attitude of the departments concerned.
BAP has literally begged Mian Nawaz and Shahbaz Shareef as well as the Housing and Finance Ministers to save the housing sector from land mafia by taking serious actions against the mentioned practices so that homeless people in Pakistan can have shelter, labourers can earn their families a living and the related industries can play their role in strengthening the economy of Pakistan.
Surely government must take some actions against land mafia that are severely affecting the real estate buying and selling in Pakistan. I really appreciate zameen.com portal that is spreading the voice of builders association against land mafia. Thanks!
