Islamabad: The Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar issued directions to the government to immediately start work on the construction of Diamer-Bhasha and Mohmand dams, a news source reported. He stated that since there is no dispute or discord among provinces on the matter, the work can begin immediately.
The Supreme Court also formed an implementation committee headed by WAPDA’s Chairman to oversee the construction of these dams. The Implementation Committee will be composed of experts and officials of the federal and KP governments. The SC asked the committee to submit a report on the matter within three weeks.
An account has also been opened solely for the purpose of construction of these two dams and the SC urged people to make contributions to the account. The CJP himself donated PKR 1 million to the account.
The bench also appealed to the nation to make contributions, whether in foreign or local currencies, directly to an account opened solely for this purpose, and these funds will be utilised and audited as per the directions of the Supreme Court.
