Islamabad: A National Assembly (NA) panel on Thursday approved budgetary proposals worth PKR 16.613 billion for at least eight environmental projects.

A meeting of the Standing Committee on Climate Change took place in Islamabad, which was presided over by MNA Munza Hasan. The participants decided to include these eight projects, including the 10-Billion Tree Tsunami initiative, in the upcoming budget for the fiscal year (FY2019-20).

Previously, the Ministry of Climate Change had proposed to allocate PKR 14 billion for the 10-Billion Tree Tsunami project. It also suggested to include a wildlife protection programme worth PKR 1.6 billion in the budget.

In a similar measure, the NA body approved budget proposals worth PKR 280.6 million for developing forests under the Clean and Green Pakistan Programme. It also set aside funds worth PKR 120.7 million for another wildlife protection programme.

Moreover, the participants approved to allocate PKR 20.4 million for the Geological Survey of Pakistan. Similarly, a climate resilient urban human settlement facility will be established at a cost of PKR 10.6 million.
