Karachi: The federal government on Monday announced the allocation of funds for various mega projects in Karachi under Financial Budget 2020-21, a news source reported. According to details, the allocation includes funds for the Greenline Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) and projects pertaining to roads, transport, and sewerage in the city.

Under the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP), the government has allocated PKR 3 billion for the Greenline BRTS. Meanwhile, it has allocated:
- PKR 650 million for the Manghopir Road (Jam Chakro to Banaras) reconstruction project
- PKR 350 million for the reconstruction of Nishtar Road
- PKR 384 million for the rehabilitation of Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC)’s existing fire-fighting system
- PKR 500 million for the construction of an interchange over Malir Link Road to M-9
- PKR 44 million for constructing a road over Malir Bund from Dadabhoy Town/Expressway to the PNS Mehran, District East limits
- PKR 217 million for the rehabilitation/improvement of roads, streets, and water & sewerage system in District East
- PKR 62 million for the rehabilitation/improvement of roads, streets, and water & sewerage system in District Korangi
- PKR 124 million for the rehabilitation/improvement of roads, streets, and water & sewerage system in various union councils of District Central
- Over PKR 1 billion for the rehabilitation/improvement of roads, streets, and water & sewerage system in various union councils of District East
- Over PKR 1 billion for projects of roads, streets, and water & sewerage system in District Malir
- PKR 986 million for projects in districts South and West, and KMC

The government has also allocated over PKR 7 billion for the operationalisation of Greenline BRTS and the installation of an integrated intelligent transport system equipment. Moreover, it has allocated PKR 1 billion for establishing the Combine Effluent Treatment Plant (CETP) for Karachi’s industrial areas and over PKR 2 billion for the Greater Karachi Water Supply Scheme (K-IV).
