Lahore: The provincial government has set aside a total of 35% of the Annual Development Project budget for the infrastructure and development projects in South Punjab, news Sources reported. Three divisions; Multan, Dera Ghazi Khan and Bahawalpur are to get PKR 189.228 billion funds for the completion of existing and new projects.

A breakdown of the Annual Development Project funds’ allocation is as follows:
• PKR 35.702 billion has been set aside for the special initiatives
• PKR 14.083 billion will be spent on the planning and development
• PKR 15.362 billion for primary and secondary education and PKR 4.866 billion for higher education
• PKR 1.015 billion for literacy and non-formal education
• PKR 1.806 billion for sports and youth affairs
• PKR 28.304 billion for specialised healthcare and medical education.
• PKR 5.886 billion for primary & secondary healthcare
• PKR 7.679 billion for public buildings
• PKR 3.967 billion for urban development,
• PKR 11.086 billion for agriculture, PKR 1.127 billion for forestry
• PKR 7.371 billion for local government & community development
• PKR 1.898 billion for energy
• PKR 22.52 billion for roads, PKR 7.901 billion for irrigation
• PKR 4.889 billion for water supply & sanitation
• PKR 1.205 billion for governance & information technology
• PKR 4.057 billion for industries
• PKR 1.488 billion for the environment & climate change
• PKR 248 million for auqaf and religious affairs
• Archaeology will receive PKR 193 million
• PKR 152 million for culture and information
• PKR 157 million has been earmarked for special education
• PKR 875 million for the human rights and minorities affairs
• PKR 664 million for population welfare
• PKR 349 million for social welfare
• PKR 46 million for women development
• PKR 213 million for wildlife
• PKR 274 million for fisheries

In addition to the fiscal year budget 2021-2022, the federal government has committed PKR 90 billion for road and connectivity-related infrastructure under the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP). The provincial administration intends to use the funds for the Gujranwala-Sialkot Motorway project. Aside from the massive road infrastructure project, the Punjab government would invest PKR 3.5 billion in power supply projects for the Allama Iqbal Industrial Zone in Faisalabad. Moreover, the construction of small dams is also on the table.
