Lahore: The Punjab government has released the ‘record high’ budget allocation of PKR 189.228 billion for the 37 development projects in South Punjab for the fiscal year 2021-22, news sources reported.

The Punjab government has allocated a massive budget for the uplift schemes including infrastructure development programs and construction projects. Some details of the budget spending are as follows:
- PKR 35.702 billion has been allocated special programmes
- PKR 28.304 billion has been allocated for the specialised healthcare and medical education projects
- PKR 22.52 billion for the construction of roads
- PKR 15.362 billion has been allocated for schools and education expenses
- PKR 14.083 billion has been set aside for the planning and development
- PKR 11.086 billion has been earmarked for the agriculture sector
- Higher education will get PKR 4.866 billion
- PKR 7.361 billion for the local government and community development programme
- PKR 7.901 billion for the irrigation development
- PKR 3.967 billion for the urban development programme
- PKR 1.127 billion for the Forest development

- PKR 4.886 billion for the water supply and sanitation services
- PKR 1.015 billion has been set aside for literacy and non-formal basic education
- PKR 1.806 billion has been allocated to the sports and youth affairs sector
- Primary and secondary healthcare will get PKR 5.886 billion
- PKR 664 billion has been allocated for the population welfare
- PKR 157 million for the specialised Education sector
- PKR 349 million for the social welfare
- PKR 49 million for the women development sector
- Wildlife will get PKR 213 million
- Fisheries related programmes will get PKR 274 million
- Food-related sector will get PKR 236 million
In this regard, the chairman P&D Abdullah Sumbal has said that the budget for South Punjab has been separated from the rest of the province to address the problems of the area.
