Rawalpindi: The federal government has allocated PKR 3.15 billion for the provision of water to Islamabad and Rawalpindi from the Tarbela Dam and the Indus River, a news source reported. This amount will be provided in a lump-sum to ensure that the project is completed by June 30, 2021.

Some PKR 400 million will be initially released for the preparation of a feasibility report for the project, although a total of PKR 1.24 billion will be required by the end of the feasibility study. According to details, a water conduction plant will be established near the Tarbela Dam, which will be used to supply water to the twin cities.

The government has also allocated funds for other development projects in the twin cities including PKR 7.8 billion for 17 projects in Rawalpindi. The budget for Rawalpindi has a significant amount of funds dedicated to its universities.
