Islamabad: The Federal Board of Revenue has been given access to the National Database Registration Authority (NADRA)’s data to bring potential taxpayers into the tax net, reported a news source. Access to the data has been granted under Finance Act 2018, through which a new section in the Income Tax Ordinance was introduced. This amendment allows the FBR to use NADRA’s data and broaden its tax base by adding new taxpayers.
It is also important to mention here that the Federal Government of Pakistan has declared the Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC) Number as the National Tax Number. The purpose of allowing the FBR access to NADRA’s data is to track transactions data of CNIC holders and bring them in the tax net.
Reportedly, the FBR will monitor this data and those involved in making big transactions will be made to get themselves registered as income tax filers.
