Karachi: The Board of Revenue (BoR) has received orders from the Supreme Court (SC) to review applications seeking land allotments for the development of public welfare projects, a news source reported. As per the court’s ruling, the record of the land areas sought be digitised prior to being considered for the allotment process.
A three-judge SC bench, headed by Justice Gulzar Ahmed, comprising Justice Faisal Arab and Justice Sajjad Ali Shah issued these orders in a case pertaining to the applications seeking procurement of government land for uplift project.

Sindh Advocate General Salman Talibuddin informed the court that previously many requests had been submitted for provision of state land for developing public welfare projects like graveyards, parks, and power plants.
The court inquired about the non-computerisation of land records to which Advocate General replied that the process was halted in the districts where land issues remained in litigation.

In 2012, the apex court had imposed a ban on state land allotment and lease after taking a suo-motu notice. It had also ordered computerisation of the government land situated across the province.
