Lahore: The Punjab government has initiated the feasibility and design phase for the Blue Line Metro Train, Lahore’s first underground metro service, as reported by a news source on February 24.

According to the details, Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Maryam Nawaz has directed Transport Minister Bilal Akbar Khan to expedite the process. The 27-km route will run from Valencia Town to Babu Sabu Chowk, passing through key areas like Johar Town, Kalma Chowk, Gulberg, Jail Road, and Allama Iqbal Town.

Expected to serve over 250,000 passengers daily, the project aims for completion within three years, utilising advanced tunnelling techniques. With an estimated cost exceeding Rs600 billion, the project has attracted interest from international financial institutions in China, Japan, and France. The latest feasibility study, conducted in June 2024, confirms the viability of a fully underground metro system.
