Karachi: The coastal areas of Karachi are expected to come under the jurisdiction of the Coastal Development Authority (CDA) Sindh, a news source reported. A bill for this purpose was tabled by the provincial government during the latest Sindh Assembly session on Monday. Following its approval, the CDA’s jurisdiction will be expanded to include all the coastal areas of Sindh.

In 1994, the CDA was formed for the development and beautification of the coastal areas of the province. The districts of Sujawal, Thatta and Badin were placed under its jurisdiction, but Karachi was excluded. This was recently brought to the attention of the provincial government which took immediate action to change the law.
During the cabinet session, Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Mukesh Kumar Chawla was absent so the bill was moved by Energy Minister Imtiaz Sheikh. It is expected to be passed in the next session.

Advisor to the Sindh Chief Minister on Environment Barrister Murtaza Wahab stated that plans to develop the coastal lines were underway. Following the bill’s approval, the government will launching various development schemes and plantation drives in the coastal areas.
