Karachi: On Wednesday, the Sindh Assembly passed the Sindh Sales Tax on Services (Amendment) Bill, 2018, according to a news report. This bill empowers the government to levy and collect sales tax beginning on July 1, 2015 on moveable and immoveable property and services by way of lease, rent, licence, or other such arrangements.
The statement of objectives and reasons states that it is expedient to amend the Sindh Sales Tax on Services Act 2011 in order to safeguard the revenue to the government and avoid litigation.
According to the new bill, the sales tax will be applicable throughout the province, and be charged from tenant of the property, not the owner.
