Islamabad: The Senate Standing Committee on Housing and Works on Tuesday approved the Federal Government Employees Housing Authority (FGEHA) Ordinance 2019 – paving the way for the conversion of the Federal Government Employees Housing Foundation (FGEHF) into a formal authority, a news source reported.
The panel members, during a meeting presided over by Mir Kabeer Ahmed Mohammad Shahi at the Parliament House, reviewed the draft at length prior to their approval finalisation. Further, the committee approved the bill with a direction that the land from local land owners would be acquired at markets rate.

Previously, the FGEHF had been registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) and operated as a sub-unit of the Ministry of Housing and Works. In July 2019, the federal government converted the foundation into an authority through a Presidential Ordinance.

President Dr Arif Alvi had officiated the FGEHA Ordinance 2019 to create the independent authority that will be responsible for the planning and development of housing projects for the serving and the retired government employees as well as other groups specified by the executive.
